It all boils down to the fact our countrys got some chip on its shoulder about showing just how democratic and representative it is. Labour first implements the all women shortlists for 50% of winnable seats, and now the Tories have this. It's all about spin, rather than for any good intentions.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-30252872.post-59388006848531255902008-01-21T18:19:00.000+00:002008-01-21T18:19:00.000+00:00I agree that having a fair reprsentation of women ...I agree that having a fair reprsentation of women and ethnnic minorities is a good thing. However, candidates should be selected on merit primarily. It is fantastic that the parties want more diversity but if this is to the detriment of a better candiadte no matter age, gender or ethnicity, then it is clearly a BAD thing.

If the local party wants someone to focus on the constituency then pick someone qualified to do just that and the samne goes for a more parliamentay role as an MP. This is instead of worrying that you have picked a candidate that is, shock horror... based on their merits!!!!!future tory PMhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/11454690164153538988noreply@blogger.com
