A Policeman's Lot is Not a Happy One...

....not, at any rate, if you happen to be a copper in modern day, Blairite Britain. I have added a link to the blog of one PC 'David Copperfield', an ordinary policeman in a pretty average town, so he says, whose regular updates should fill us with horror. It was his article in the Mail (here) that first brought him to my attention, and no, don't ignore it just because of where it's been published. He has now published a book of his journal entries, and you don't have to be a fascist right-winger to think that, on the whole, we'd prefer policeman to be out there, sort of catching criminals, rather than updating paperwork on the latest ludicrous targets.

I know it's not strictly on-topic, but i had to make this (slightly) more public. I was browsing through the 'Have Your Say' section of the BBC website on the 'Why are British teenagers so badly behaved?' thread and came across this response:

'Having lived for considerable periods in the Netherlands, Abu Dhabi and Vietnam I can say that certain groups of British Kids have terrible behavior. Why I don't know reading history the one reads reports from hudreds of years ago that could have been written today. Maybe we have a class of hooligans that beget hooligans. Certainly problem families seem to have problem kids.

Steve, HCMC'

This is utterly ridiculous. Apparently spending time in the Netherlands, Abu Dhabi and Vietnam gives him power to state the obvious. How stupid. I might start my own blog... Sorry for impeding on yours.

I agree with Steve. The kids I taught away from England drank lots, and did a lot of recreational drugs but in the end came from good families, and regarded academic achievment as a must (and because of this all did well). Stating the obvious leads you to Norman Tebbit's article on my blog about the youth of Britain.

He does have a point though. We had an intruder in our garden 8 months ago, we're still waiting...

The retreat of liberalism goes on

As communism seemingly disappeared from view at the end of the 1980s, in a sudden and unexpected blow-out, there was plenty of triumphal...
