The Citizenship Test
So should we have to pass a test before we can vote? That was one of the ideas put forward in a politics discussion on democracy today, so as a quick guide, here is the link to the UK citizenship test, containing the questions that the government believes you should know the answers to if you are to have UK citizenship, and thus the right to vote. Similar idea to the anti-democracy PAD rebels in Thailand - the rural poor, just because they happen to hold different views to the elite urban Bangkokians (by supporting Thaksin), aren't 'intelligent' enough to be allowed to vote. Dangerous thoughts.
No one is intelligent enough to be allowed to vote. The whole idea of democracy is flawed. It is inefficient and gets far too easily distracted by public opinion. Government is too important to be chosen by people who don't know or care enough about it. You wouldn't vote for doctors or lawyers, would you?
